About Buckeye Chapter

Buckeye Chapter NAVHDA is an affiliate chapter of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association. NAVHDA is dedicated to the conservation of hunting game through the use of high quality versatile hunting dogs. Versatile hunting dogs promote hunting conservation by reducing losses of wounded game. A good versatile hunting dog must be able to hunt, find, point, and retrieve game under a wide variety of conditions, both in the field and in the water. Versatile hunting dogs are used to hunt a wide variety of game in North America including but not limited to grouse, quail, partridge, pheasant, duck, geese, rabbit, and fox.

The Buckeye Chapter NAVHDA serves the versatile hunting dog enthusiast in the eastern part of Ohio and the western part of Pennsylvania. We share our "borders" with our sister chapters MidOhio Chapter (located in central Ohio) and Shenango Chapter (located in western Pennsylvania). The Buckeye Chapter NAVHDA is active throughout the year, except during the mid-winter months, when many of our members are busy hunting with their versatile dogs. We have our annual organizational meeting every January, and we hold training sessions monthly from January through October. In addition, we hold weekly training sessions from June through September.

Buckeye Chapter also participates in the NAVHDA Testing program. Our chapter conducts two tests each year, typically in May and October. During these tests, members or non-members are able to test the versatile hunting qualities of both young dogs (the Natural Ability test) and older, more experienced dogs (the Utility test). For additional information on NAVHDA testing your dog, contact our Test Secretary Wendy McIntosh at WendyMcI@press-of-ohio.com The Buckeye Chapter NAVHDA operates under the rules and regulations of the International Office of NAVHDA. We have officer elections on January of even numbered years to administrate our chapter; we conduct chapter business according to our chapter bylaws. For additional information on becoming a NAVHDA member, contact Buckeye Chapter Treasurer Dennis Haas at email DLH383@alumni.lehigh.edu New members are always welcome!
